Augustus Nana Akwasi and Joseph Yammin
Joseph Yammin, a former Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reacted angrily to reports that he has created a parallel regional party office in Kumasi.
The Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman, Augustus Nana Akwasi, has accused Yammin of creating an additional NDC regional office at Kwadaso, a suburb of Kumasi.
In a recent report, Nana Akwasi is reported to have stated emphatically that he (Nana Akwasi) is the only NDC Ashanti regional chairman so Yammin’s office should be disregarded by NDC members.
The issue is said to be creating tension and uneasiness among NDC members in the Ashanti Region who fear that the current quandary could deepen cracks in the NDC.
Yammin Reacts
But in a sharp rebuttal, Joseph Yammin indicated that “whoever believed the story that I have created a parallel NDC office and reacted to it in the media is naive and it includes our regional chairman.”
The NDC stalwart stated that he has no intention of creating an additional NDC office after losing to Augustus Nana Akwasi during the recent primary in the Ashanti Region.
“The office in question is my private office and so I am surprised that the NDC chairman is having issues with it. If I have lost elections does that prevent me from creating my own office?” he quizzed.
“I am surprised that the regional chairman said that we have one-and-only regional chairman in the news report. The writer of that report has confirmed that he spoke to our chairman.
“Augustus Nana Akwasi should rather be happy that some of us who have lost NDC election are even ready to work for the party to win the 2020 presidential election, which is just around the corner.”
Yammin said the issue should not create tension in the NDC chairman, reiterating that only naive people would believe that he (Yammin) has created a parallel Ashanti Regional NDC office.
He was of the view that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) should rather be concerned about his private office and not the NDC which is his beloved political party.
Yammin, who served as deputy sports minister during the previous Mahama administration, lost to Augustus Nana Akwasi during the Ashanti Regional NDC chairmanship race last year.
