THE OPPOSITION National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended elections in some 17 constituencies across the country over what is believed to be suspected raging litigations.
Affected constituencies are Nandom (Upper West Region), Bolga Central (Upper East Region), Kpandai and Savelugu (Northern Region), Manhyia North and Subin (Ashanti Region), Ho West and Anlo (Volta Region) and Amenfi East (Western Region).
The remaining suspended constituencies are Ningo-Prampram, La-Dade Kotopon, Amasaman, Ayawso West Wuogon (Greater Accra Region) and Afram Plains South, Akropong, Abuakwa North as well as Fanteakwa South (Eastern Region).
Some aggrieved aspirants in the suspended constituencies were said to have hauled the party to court over the disqualification and unresolved petitions which have bombarded the head office and the disciplinary committee of the party since nomination were opened.
This and other reasons were mentioned to have compelled the Functional Executive Committee of the party to suspend elections in the disputed constituencies, pending settlement of all issues.
The party has warned to suspend elections in any constituency which will fail to transfer dues to the national account by close of Thursday.
However, the rest of the constituencies will hold their elections on June 23, 2018, as planned.
A statement issued and signed by the General Secretary of NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, reads: “On behalf of the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC, I wish to announce that our 2018 Constituency Elections will come off as scheduled in all constituencies across the country on Saturday, June 21, 2018, pending the transfer of all dues payments to the national account by Thursday June 21, 2018, failure of which will lead to the suspension of elections in the affected constituencies.
“Please kindly take note that elections in the above mentioned constituencies are suspended till further notice, pending the resolution of outstanding petitions in the respective areas.”
Meanwhile, the functional executives have adjourned the Anlo Constituency elections to Saturday June 30, 2018, subsequent to request by the constituency.
