Properties vandalized at the NDC Salaga South constituency part office
The Regional Disciplinary Committee of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) in the Savannah Region has suspended the Salaga South constituency chairman and two others following bloody attacks between some party supporters and constituency executives at the party office in Salaga.
The suspended party executives are Haruna Salifu alias Connect constituency chairman, Murtala Falalu constituency organizer, and Abubakar Abu Omega constituency communications officer.
The three constituency executives have been suspended for three months with immediate effect starting Wednesday, May 19, 2021, under Article 48(1) of the party’s constitution.
A statement signed by the NDC Savannah Regional Secretary, Salifu Be-awuribe and sighted by DGN Online indicated that the suspended constituency executives are to make themselves available to the Regional Disciplinary Committee of the party for investigations.
The statement further stated that some party supported namely Sofo, Babamu, Manager, Tahiru, Hardi Tuferu and Malik were those who stormed the party office to vandalize party properties.
The Savannah Regional Secretary of the NDC said the constituency executive committee has been directed by the party to investigate the non-officeholders who are members of the party in the constituency and swiftly take disciplinary actions against those guilty and to report same to the Regional Executive Committee within 30 days from Wednesday, May 19, 2021.
“Failure to carry this directive by the Salaga South Constituency Executives Committee would attract severe sanction on responsible constituency officers.”
Mr Be-awuribe however called for calm in the Salaga South Constituency and warned that the party would not tolerate any act of indiscipline or anti-party behaviour by any member of the party at any level of the party.
Some supporters of the NDC on Sunday, May 16, 2021, stormed their party office and disrupted a meeting by some constituency executives.
The situation created pandemonium, resulting in the vandalizing of party properties and an alleged firing of gunshots by some unknown persons.
Some constituency executives sustained serious injuries in the process and were quickly sent to the hospital for treatment.
They have since been treated and discharged.
The incident has been reported to the police by the Constituency executives but no arrest has been made so far.
A viral video sighted by DGN Online showed some party supporters led by one Ibrahim Malik believed to be supporters of the Salaga South constituency Member of Parliament, Hajia Zuweira Ibrahimah, claiming that the MP is the leader of the party in the constituency, adding that there cannot be any meeting in the constituency without the MP’s consent.
According to him, some of the constituency executives campaigned against the MP since 2019 and that their plans failed when she won the 2020 election, but they are not willing to give up until the MP loses.
They called for the removal of the constituency executives who do not have the party at heart and working against their MP.
There has been some confusion within the NDC in the Salaga South constituency after the party’s primary in 2019.
