NDC Withdraws Techiman South Case

Christopher Beyere

SOURCES CLOSE to Christopher Beyere, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Techiman South in the Bono East Region in the 2020 general elections, say he has withdrawn a writ he filed against the declaration of the results by the Electoral Commission.

Mr. Beyere filed a writ of mandamus at Sunyani High Court praying the court to compel the Electoral Commission re-collate Techiman South results because he claimed he won but has reportedly rushed back to the court and withdrawn the case.

It is not clear why the NDC withdrew the case after the party launched a relentless attack on the officials of the EC, the security agencies and the media in the Techiman South for standing behind the NPP candidate Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah to be declared winner of the December 7, 2020 elections.

Sources say the NDC filed the suit on Friday, December 11, 2020 in order to prevent the winner, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, from carrying himself out as the MP-elect, and later petitioned the EC for re-collation and declaration.

The information indicated after realising that once the case was in court, the petition to the EC would not serve the purpose, they rushed back to withdraw it and first petitioned the EC and asked for re-collation before going back to court.

Other sources also alleged that a viral video that popped up yesterday showing counting and collation of Techiman South results in which the NDC candidate, Christopher Beyere, attacked the returning officer and the NPP organiser, made them withdraw the suit because the evidence in the video was against the NDC.
