New Leader For Pentecost Church

The Electoral College of the Church of Pentecost has elected Apostle Eric Nyamekye, 53, as the new Chairman to replace Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah, who retires at the age of 64 in August this year.

He had 147 “Yes” votes out of the 151 confirmed voters, with four “No” votes on Friday.

The General Council of the Church, which is the highest decision making body, confirmed his acceptance as the substantive head of the Church which has been described as the fastest growing church worldwide.

The General Council comprises all Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Area Executive Committee Members, National Heads, National Deacons, among others.

A report from the Public Relations outfit of the Church indicated that out of the expected eligible voters of about 1,009 Councilors at the General Council, he polled 994 ‘Yes’ votes – representing 98.5% of the total votes cast.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye, who is currently the Koforidua Area Head of the church in the Eastern Region and the husband of Mary Nyamekye, has six children and a number of dependants.

He is reported to have entered the ministry as an overseer at the age of 22 and steadily rose through the ranks to become the chairman of the church.

Congratulatory Message

In a congratulatory message, the outgoing chairman wished the new chairman well in his endeavours.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye, who has been described as a “gentle giant” by his colleagues, was full of praise to his maker, saying that it was an opportunity to serve Him even better.

Reports coming to DAILY GUIDE indicated that shortly after the release of the news of his election, there was massive jubilation among the church members.

The Church of Pentecost operates in 99 countries.

Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye was born on October 21, 1965 to Stephen Antiedu Nyamekye (dead) and Agnes Owusu from Asokore, Ashanti.

He is a product of Tema Secondary School, Nyankpala Agric College and holds a number of Diplomas and a Master’s Degree in Religious Studies from the University of Ghana and a PhD from the Stellenbosch University, South Africa.

He has a wide range of working experience.
