Some players in the SME sector at the workshop
The National Investment Bank (NIB), in collaboration with Corporate Secretarial and Training Services, held a two-day workshop for some Small and Medium-scale Entrepreneurs (SMEs) recently in Accra.
The workshop, which was aimed at enhancing the capacity of SMEs and establishing a working relationship with them to grow and have competitive edge in their various fields of business, was on the theme, ‘Corporate Governance.”
NIB has over the past 55 years been at the forefront of providing financial intermediation, equity financing and credit to indigenous Ghanaian businesses.
The bank recognizes SMEs as the engine of growth of the economy, which if supported, could provide the needed jobs for the unemployed.
Head of Corporate Affairs at NIB, Charles K. Wordey, in a remark, urged the participants to take advantage of the workshop to deepen their knowledge on internal control mechanisms and proper corporate governance structures to ensure the integrity of their financial and accounting information.
The training was held at the Accra Digital Centre for SMEs selected from varied fields of businesses.
A resource person from Corporate Secretarial and Training Services, Samuel Nartey, spoke on the pros and cons of setting up a business as a sole proprietor and partnerships while William Demitia, a resource person, schooled the young entrepreneurs on tax compliance, among others.
