A 13-member delegation from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru in Nigeria has paid a day’s working visit to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at its National Headquarters in Accra.
The visit which formed part of their study tour of some key security agencies of Ghana was to learn at firsthand the contribution of the Service to Ghana’s internal security and policing and to tap into the wealth of experience of the Service.
The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi, expressed the excitement of hosting the Nigerian delegation and noted that the choice of Ghana as their study tour was appropriate and a good one.
“You are not in Ghana to only obtain information on Ghana’s security framework but also to share knowledge and ideas that will provide peace and security to our citizens and propel the socio-economic growth of both countries,” he added.
He called for effective collaboration towards the maintenance of peace and security in the sub region.
Brigadier General Bainze Haruna Mohammed, who led the Nigerian delegation, extolled the long-lasting relationship that exists between both countries and noted that the delegation was a Study Group (five) of the Senior Executive Course 40 of the NIPSS.
He said they had been tasked to study countries with good democratic credentials and excellent security systems and submit recommendations to the President of the Federal State for possible adoption.
He noted that there were other five Study Groups who were also on tour in other African States.
They were taken through a presentation on Ghana’s border security and its associated threats and challenges.
