The government has donated 2,000 dual desks to the Ghana Education Service Directorate in the Kwahu West Municipality, Eastern Region, for onward distribution to the schools there.
The Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour, after handing over the desks also handed over a refurbished three-unit classroom block belonging to Kwamang MA Basic School to the education authorities in the area.
The roof of the school building ripped off during rainstorms recently and the minister, who doubles as Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkawkaw, had to mobilize funds to fix the problem immediately to enable final year pupils who are returning to school next week to find a conducive environment to study.
Besides, Mr. Darfour presented some face masks and hand sanitizers to the headmistress of the school to be distributed among the pupils when they resume.
After the presentation, he visited some ongoing developmental projects in the educational sector in the municipality.
These include a six-unit classroom block and three-storey teachers’ model apartments to accommodate 12 teachers at Aprewhem and a six-unit classroom block at Ekoso.
He also took the contractor who has been selected to construct nine teachers’ bungalow in the constituency to inspect the site earmarked for the project before official sod-cutting is done.
The Municipal Coordinating Director, Alhaji Issa Musa, who represented the chief executive, thanked the MP for his quick response to the distress call from the school and said that the school needed to produce good results to justify the investments being made.
The Municipal Director of Education, Daniel Yeboah Yienno, commended the government for the investment being made in the educational sector.
He said they would work hard and also ensure that the building is well maintained for the benefit of the future generation.
