New Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the Volta Region have been asked to discharge their duties effectively or risk being sacked.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, who gave the warning, noted that there are a large number of competent people ready to take over from them if they fail.

According to him, “The President requires competent and proactive people to take charge of our various assemblies to prosecute his agenda of developing and transforming the nation.”

He subsequently encouraged them to adequately stay abreast with the policies, programmes and developmental agenda of government and implement them.

Dr Letsa disclosed this during the swearing-in of MDCEs at the conference room of the Residency in Ho.

Sixteen out of 25 MDCE nominees in the Volta Region have so far been confirmed.

The President’s nominees for Akatsi North and Agortime Ziope could sail through this week in a second round of voting if their respective assembly members give them the nod.

Dr. Letsa urged the new MDCEs to also adhere to the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936), Public Financial Management Act 2016 (Act 921) and all other laws.

“In as much as we would wish to take prompt decisions that would facilitate our work and the development of our various districts, we must nonetheless be mindful that they must conform to the established laws and regulations, because if they are violated, they will attract appropriate sanctions,” he added.

He said they must encourage active participation of the people in the programmes and activities geared towards the socio-economic development of the various districts.

The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Maxwell Blagogee, on his part, urged them to put in place actions and programmes that would bring development to their areas.

He attributed the rejection of some nominees to in-fighting among assembly members, complacency and attitude of the nominees and charged the new MDCEs to justify the confidence reposed in them by the assembly members.

The DCE for North Dayi, Edmund Kudzo Attah, on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the President and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them.

Other DCEs for Ho, North Dayi, Kpando, Ho West, Keta, Ketu South, Ketu North, Nkwanta North and Nkwanta South.

The rest are Jasikan, Afadjato South, Kadjebi, Krachi Nchumuru, Krachi East, Krachi West and Central Tongu were inaugurated.
