Members of the North America FOSA
Members of the North America chapter of Fijai Old Students Association (FOSA) have waded into the interdiction of the headmaster of Fijai Senior High School, Kenneth Agbomadze.
They say it has been two weeks since the headmaster was interdicted by the Ghana Education Service (GES) over alleged collection of illegal fees, and since then nothing has been head about the issue.
The group is therefore appealing to the GES to reinstate the headmaster.
According to them, the headmaster did nothing wrong and want him to be reinstated with immediate effect.
It would be recalled that the GES on April 10, 2023 issued a statement signed by the Head of its Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, accusing the headmaster of collecting illegal fees in the school and was subsequently interdicted to pave way for investigations into the allegation.
The GES indicated that it was going to use two weeks to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
However, the statement from GES did not specify what those alleged illegal fees were.
It was later gathered that the alleged illegal fees included collection of intervention classes fees of GH¢100 per student for two semesters.
The rest were special support levy of GH¢150 per student for two semesters, and collection of PA dues of GH¢40 per student for two semesters.
Meanwhile, the Parents Association (PA) of the school has come out to explain that the decision to collect the fees was taken at a PA executives’ meeting held on January 25, 2023.
According to the North American FOSA, it has more questions than answers. The group is therefore asking whether the headmaster’s interdiction; is a malicious intent by someone or a group targeting to replace him?
“If the Parents Association has come to declare that the headmaster is innocent, we will appeal to GES to reinstate Mr. Kenneth Agbomadze as the headmaster of Final SHS.
“We have gathered that the headmaster is a member of the PA because his son is a student of the school.
“Or is it a directive of the Ministry of Education that teachers or headmaster’s wards cannot attend the same school their parents teach?” they asked.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE in an interview, Andrew Mensah Sowah, President of North American FOSA said the association has watched with admiration the creditable performance of Mr. Agbomadze even though he is not an old student of the school.
Meanwhile, the Parents’ Association (PA) formerly Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school has jumped to the defence of the interdicted headmaster.
The association indicated that the headmaster was part of the meeting -because his son is a student -where the association agreed to commit the financial assistance to the school.
The PA has, therefore, insisted that Mr. Agbomadze is innocent of the allegations levelled against him.
