Chiefs in the Northern Region have commended President Akufo-Addo for introducing pro-poor policies to create jobs and reduce poverty in the region.
The chiefs poured out their hearts individually to the President when he took time off his busy schedule to meet with them during his three-day tour of the Northern Region.
The Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohigu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, while hosting his guest, said Mamprugu acknowledges the achievements made by the government in its 17 months in office as evidenced by his pro-poor policies such as the Free SHS, Planting for Food and Jobs, One District, One Factory, expansion of School Feeding Programme and the National Builders Corp (NABCO).
According to the overlord, these are well thought-out policies that have the potential to create jobs and reduce poverty.
“Your Excellency, we want to thank you for the various developmental projects that are currently ongoing in the district – the upgrading of the Nalerigu/Gambaga town roads, stadium in Walewale, Yagba-Kubori Road and others, these are signs that the national cake is being distributed fairly,” he exclaimed.
The overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa Sulemana Jakpa I, said “three visits within nine months, outside an electioneering period for a president is unprecedented, and this is a clear manifestation of keeping faith with the people.
“Your Excellency, your presence here at Yagbon is a clear demonstration to us about your reverence for our tradition and culture and the respect and love you have for our people.”
The overlord expressed excitement about the positive impact of government’s bold initiatives such as ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’, ‘One District One Factory’, ‘One Village One Dam,’ and other pro-poor policies introduced.
“I have no doubt in my mind that you and your government, with the capabilities you have exhibited so far, will be able to deliver in full these commitments with time,” he intimated.
The Paramount Chief of Bunkpurugu, Alhaji Abuba Nasinmong, said the people of Bunkpurugu are very satisfied with the manner in which President Akufo-Addo has kept his promises such as the Free SHS which, as he put it, has really lifted a very heavy burden on parents, adding that the Fertilizer Subsidy Policy has gone a long way to assist farmers.
He further praised the president for the One Village, One Dam policy which is being implemented in eight villages.
They thanked the president for choosing Salifu Saeed as the Northern Regional Minister, adding that his neutrality in solving conflicts and its related issues in the region makes him unique.
“When leaders resolve not to meddle in chieftaincy and land matters, it reduces the cumbersomeness in such matters,” he pointed out.
