The Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu-Sonya East, has disclosed that the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) will soon be named the Northern Development Authority (NDA).
As part of government’s efforts to undertake projects in the country, a 10-member team has been inaugurated and orientated on IPEP implementation.
The Northern Development Authority (NDA) will effectively and efficiently carry out the need assessments of the three Northern regions to eradicate poverty.
The inauguration of the team, which took place at the Tamale Regional Coordinating Council, brought together dignitaries from all walks of life such as the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SADA, Charles Abugri.
She indicated that government would put strong emphasis on infrastructure development and a number of interconnected programmes at the grassroots level to help eradicate poverty and boost the country’s economy.
According to her, the establishment of a ministry to oversee the implementation of IPEP showed the government’s commitment to eradicating poverty and boosting the economy of the country to better the lives of people in rural communities.
The 10-member team has been charged to manage the IPEP at the regional levels, and they must demonstrate a high-level of commitment, reliability and diligence in their operations.
Mavis Hawa Koomson assured the 10-member regional team of her ministry’s commitment and support.
She advised the team to take advantage of the opportunities and give off their best to ensure the success of the programmes.
The economic advisor to the Vice President, Dr. Alolo gave assurance that the projects by the erstwhile government would not be abandoned.
He revealed that SADA would be subjected to some structural adjustments.
