Alhassan ® and his vice, Kessie Musah Ibrahim at the press conference
Following what has been described as judgment day for football in Ghana, the investigative piece of undercover journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has led to the resignation of the then president of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi with government in talks with the world football governing body, FIFA, to dissolve the association.
Hours after the resignation of the GFA president, Abdulai Alhassan, the Northern Regional FA President also tendered his resignation.
In the video, the former president of the association was seen negotiating with some purported investors and was given $65,000 as shopping allowance, a gift which is against the rules of the game.
As part of the negotiations, Nyantakyi was also heard saying he would create a dummy agency which would only exist on paper, to be made in charge of the negotiations. That being done, he also insisted that the sponsorship be paid through a microfinance company he owned.
According to Alhassan, his decision to resign was after deliberations with his family, friends and associates. According to him, stepping aside for someone else to take over the helm of affairs of football in the region is the best thing to do considering the fact that he led the supposed investors to Nyantakyi.
Justifying his involvement in the whole corruption saga, Alhassan said, his desire to see growth and development in the game in Ghana was his only motivation for which he led the investors to the former president of the association.
