With about two months to the national elections of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect officers to manage its affairs for the next four years, a survey has revealed that Mr. Freddie Blay, Acting Chairman, is still ahead of his competitors.
The survey, which was conducted by Ashpoll Consult, also put the Acting General Secretary of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo family, John Boadu, also known as J.B., and Dr. Charles Dwamena, also known as Dr ‘China’ in a comfortable lead.
John Boadu and Dr. ‘China’ are contesting for the General Secretary and National Treasurer positions, respectively.
Sammy Awuku, the incumbent National Youth Organiser is still going unopposed, the survey revealed.
The incumbent National Nasara Coordinator, Kamal-Deen Abdallah, who was trailing behind Bright Essilifie-Kumi and Henry Nana Boakye, a.k.a Nana B, in the previous survey conducted by the same organisation, has jumped to the lead ahead of his competitors in the National Youth Organiser race.
That for the National Women Organiser position is a close contest between Joyce Konokie-Zampare and Kate Gyamfua, with the latter marginally cruising to victory.
Madam Rita Asobayire, former Women’s Organiser and Ali Suraj are both leading in their respective positions they are vying for.
According to the survey which was conducted from March 10th to 10th April, 2018, although the National Chairman race has turned out to be a close contest between Mr. Freddie Blay and Mr. Stephen Ntim, the Acting National Chairman is still ahead.
Mr. Blay polled 1,420 votes, representing 38.29% ahead of Mr. Ntim’s 1,339 votes, representing 36.10%.
The other contestants in that category, Abubakari Abdul-Rahman, popularly known as ‘Alhaji Short’, Frederick Sarfo and Dr. Amoako Baah, polled 766, 129 and 55 votes, representing 20.64%, 3.49% and 1.48%, respectively.
With the General Secretary position, John Boadu, the survey noted, polled 2,038 votes, representing 54.96%. He was closely followed by former Member of Parliament (MP) for Effia/Kwesimintim Constituency, Joseph Badu Ansah, who also polled 1,254 votes, representing 33.81%. Richard Ahiagbah, who is also contesting for the General Secretary position also pulled 417, representing 11.23%.
The position for the National Treasurer is appearing to be a one-man show with Dr. Charles Dwamena, a.k.a Dr. ‘China’ polling 2,263 votes, representing 61.01% ahead of his competitors, Kwabena Abankwa-Yeboah, the incumbent; Nuhu Mahama, Ahmed Saida Ruka, Abraham Amoakohene and Mary Posch-Oduro, who polled 605, 361, 272, 123, and 85, representing 16.31%, 9.73%, 7.35%, 3.32% and 2.28%, respectively.
The position of the National Nasara Coordinator is also being keenly contested for by Ali Suraj who polled 226 votes, representing 45.89% ahead of Suleman Atakpo and Abubakari Sulemana, aka ‘Laku-Laku’ who garnered 209 and 57 votes, representing 42.56% and 11.55%.
For the position of the National vice Chairperson, Madam Rita Asobayire is in a comfortable lead with a wider margin of 1,371 votes, representing 36.96%.
She was followed by Mr. Frederick Fredua Anto (F.F. Anto), incumbent 3rd National Vice Chair, who polled 838 votes representing 22.59%. Mr. Michael Omari Wadie and Philomena Serwa Akoto who are also contesting for the National Vice Chair position also garnered 780 and 720 votes, representing 21.03% and 19.42%, respectively.
A total of 3,709 respondents from 246 constituencies in the 10 regions participated in the survey for the National Chairman, National Vice Chairperson, General-Secretary and National Treasurer positions.
That of the National Youth Organiser position had 631 respondents from 246 constituencies and 139 TESCON Institutions in the 10 regions, according to the survey.
Also, with the National Women’s Organiser position, a total of 619 respondents from 246 constituencies and 137 TESCON Institutions in the 10 regions participated in the survey.
The position for the National Nasara Coordinator had 492 respondents from 246 constituencies in the 10 regions.
