NPP Sets Records On Awutu Bereku Shooting

Mavis Hawa Koomson

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency has responded to allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding a shooting incident that occurred during the Awubia festival at Awutu Bereku.

The NPP has described the NDC’s claims as “bogus” and “propaganda” aimed at tarnishing the image of the hardworking Member of Parliament for the area, Mavis Hawa Koomson.

According to the NPP, the shooting incident did not occur at Kasoa as claimed by the NDC, but rather at Awutu Bereku during the swearing-in ceremony of some new chiefs.

The victim, Frank Odoom, is a resident of Winneba in the Effutu Municipality and not a member of the NDC or NPP.

The NPP has also denied claims that the suspect, Nai Akwasi Lartey, is the personal bodyguard of Mavis Hawa Koomson.

According to the party, Lartey is the boundary chief of Awutu Ofaakor and not a personal bodyguard of the MP. The party has also revealed that the suspect took the victim to the hospital after the incident and has been taking care of him.

Background of the Incident

The shooting incident occurred on September 4, 2024, during the Awubia festival at Awutu Bereku.

The festival is an annual event that brings together the people of Awutu Senya West to celebrate their culture and traditions.

The incident occurred during the swearing-in ceremony of some new chiefs, and it is alleged that the suspect, Nai Akwasi Lartey, fired a shot that injured Frank Odoom.

The NDC had organized a press conference at the Kasoa Divisional Police Command, where they alleged that the suspect was the personal bodyguard of Mavis Hawa Koomson.

However, the NPP has denied these claims, describing them as “bogus” and “propaganda.”

Previous Background History

The Awutu Senya East Constituency has been a stronghold of the NPP, and Mavis Hawa Koomson has been a hardworking MP who has delivered on her promises to the people. The constituency has seen significant development under her leadership, including the commissioning of the new Central East Regional Police Command.

The NDC has been struggling to make inroads in the constituency, and it is alleged that they are using propaganda and lies to tarnish the image of Mavis Hawa Koomson.

However, the NPP has called on Ghanaians to disregard the propaganda of the NDC and to focus on the development agenda of the NPP.
