NPP Youth Chase Savelugu-Nanton MCE

Some of the youth locking up the   Savelugu assembly

Some youth in the Savelugu-Nanton municipality of the Northern Region have locked up the office of the municipal chief executive (MCE).

The youth, numbering over 50, went to the Municipal Assembly and sealed off the entire building which made the workers stranded.

A police officer who was stationed at the assembly was locked inside the building when he refused to come out of it.

Security personnel escorted the Savelugu-Nanton MCE, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, to officially report at her office on Wednesday.

The municipal coordinating director handed over the mandate of the assembly to Hajia Ayishetu Seidu on Wednesday in a short ceremony amidst security protection.

The MCE, after her confirmation, has not been able to commence work due to continuous protests by the youth in the municipality.

They warned the MCE not to come to the area despite the fact that she had been confirmed by the assembly members following her appointment by President Akufo-Addo.

Information gathered indicated that on several occasions, the youth had prevented ?the MCE from coming to the assembly to commence work.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the leader of the youth, Zakaria Karim, said they would resist any attempt by the government to impose the MCE on them.

According to him, Hajia is not a registered voter in the Savelugu constituency and that she was never part of the campaign which brought the NPP back to power.

He indicated that Hajia Ayishetu did not contribute to the winning of the party in Savelugu – neither in cash nor in kind.

Mr Zakaria Karim stated categorically that they would not open up the office for the MCE and threatened that should the party insist that they would bring military and police to open the offices, they would be ready for them (security agents).

He appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately revoke the appointment of Hajia Ayishetu Seidu for peace to prevail in the area.
