Nurse Sues ‘Activist’ Over Ridge Hospital ‘Attack’

Ralph Saint Williams

A rotation nurse at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital, has filed a GH₵7 million law suit against self-acclaimed activist, Ralph St. Williams, known on social media as ‘Ralph De Fellow Ghanaian,’ for battery resulting in bodily injury and defamation.

The plaintiff, Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei, in a writ issued by her lawyer, Charles Delali Blagogee of Blagogee, Blacksword & CO.  is seeking among others, an apology from the defendant and a 50-metre radius restraining order against him as a result of the incident that was widely condemned by many.

Ralph allegedly assaulted the rotation nurse at the emergency ward of the hospital on August 18, 2025, where he had taken a car accident victim.

Condemnation

A viral video captured him accusing the nurses on duty of neglecting patients and also accused them of lacking a sense of urgency.

The video generated public condemnation, while the Minority in Parliament and some individuals called for his arrest and prosecution for what they describe as ‘reckless’ behaviour.

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNAM) also issued a 48-ultimatum to government and security agencies to apprehend him.

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team Member, Hamza Suhuyini, also called on security agencies to begin to monitor him while calling for an end to such actions.

“I think that his activities are becoming unacceptable,” the MP stated while condemning the act.

Suit

Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei in her suit filed at the registrar of a High Court in Accra, contends that while the accident victim was being cared for, Ralph “leading some thugs, also entered the facility and demanded impatiently to be treated for what he described as an injury to his fingers.”

She indicates that the defendant demanded that the staff abandon the patients under treatment, including “one with an open fracture that was actively bleeding,” to attend to him instead.

The law suit also points out that Ralph declined to obtain a hospital card, insisting that his Ghana Card should suffice, even after he was told the card was not enough.

She indicates that the defendant was videoing staff and patients in the room without their consent and subsequently posted same on social media, thereby breaching confidentiality required for medical treatments.

The plaintiff further avers that she personally provided first aid to Ralph and dressed his wound to give him “reassurance and comfort so that he could go and get a hospital card for a full treatment.”

However, the defendant allegedly removed the dressing, went outside and marshalled some ‘thugs’ and led them forcibly into the treatment room, while claiming the staff had abandoned the patients.

Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei further claim Ralph struck her left hand with a clenched fist while holding a ‘metallic cellphone’ without provocation.

“The defendant and his followers, who were well-built men, escalated the attack and pounced on the plaintiff and brutally beat her to pulp,” the suit avers.

The nurse said she sustained injuries to her right shoulder, left lower arm, back, waist and other parts of her body as a result.

“The plaintiff now suffers frequent panic attacks and nightmares as result of the brutal attack,” the suit averred, adding that defendant also threatened to pursue the plaintiff and others if any patient dies at the hospital or anything happens to any patient.

The suit added that days after the assault, Ralph went on social media and called her a liar, claiming that she had cooked up the injuries ‘to cover up the nonsense going on at the hospital.’

Rejoice Tsotsoo is therefore claiming GH₵5 million as damages for battery resulting in injury and another GH₵2 million for defamatory comments against her.

She is also asking for an apology, a restraining order as well costs, including legal fees.
