Nii Lante Bannerman Making The Presentation
The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Odododiodioo Constituency has recognized the efforts of some dedicated members of the party for their hard work over the years.
The parliamentary candidate of the NPP for the 2016 general elections, Nii Lante Bannerman, led executives, including its chairman, Raymond Ntu-Ana Nettey, to visit three elders, who have contributed in diverse ways to develop the party during the Christmas festivities.
They initially visited the home of 89-year-old Mercy Asaaba Quarcoo, who has upheld the Dankwa-Busia-Dombo tradition, which gave birth to the NPP, over the years.
In the face of tyranny of the then Nkrumah regime in the early 1960s, she was said to have defended the cause of the Dankwa-Busia-Dombo tradition.
Mercy Quarcoo was subsequently arrested and jailed together with the likes of Sheikh Ibrahim Cudjoe (I.C) Quaye for five years.
On the eve of Christmas, they deemed it fit to give her two bags of rice, two chickens, cooking oil and an unspecified amount of money.
The octogenarian, who could not hide her joy, instantly resolved to let go of any ill-feelings she had developed for the party.
The woman, together with her family, pledged to continuously support the NPP.
The party also donated to Sarah Crabbe, 86, who was also said to have played a crucial role in the party at the time.
She also received a similar parcel as 97-year-old James Kpakpo Allotey, who served as the party’s treasurer in the constituency from 1992 to 1997.
Mr Allotey, who is now blind, encouraged the leadership of the party at all levels to continue to remember the sacrifices of the people to sustain the NPP.
He therefore advised them to shun complacency and opulence while in government and unite to achieve their common goal.
That, he said, would endear the NPP to Ghanaians.
On their part, the 2016 NPP parliamentary candidate, Nii Lante Bannerman and the Constituency Chairman, Raymond Ntu-Ana, as well as all the party executives, promised to continue to donate the party’s elders regularly.
