THE RELATIVE peace which prevailed in Bawku in the past few weeks was broken yesterday after a man was shot dead.
In the renewed violence to hit the Upper East Region municipality, four persons have been arrested by security personnel to assist in investigation.
Many who heard about the violence regarded it as a fresh outbreak of violence and quickly abandoned the streets for the relative safety of their homes.
Bawku has remained a restive municipality as a chieftaincy and ethnocentric misunderstanding has robbed its peace for many years now.
Security, as a result of the clashes, has been beefed up. There is even a military unit permanently stationed there to avert further clashes.
In the past few weeks, teachers in the Bawku municipality have sought for transfers outside the conflict zone, a situation which has witnessed a marked shortage of staff for schools in the town.
Some teachers have not been spared the violence in Bawku, hence the heightened incidence of transfers.
