George Oduro
ONE OF the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s flagship programmes – One Village, One Dam – will officially be rolled out next month.
The programme is among other things, intended to ensure constant supply of water for farmers to cultivate their crops to boost food security.
The NPP government, headed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has already given contracts to some companies to begin construction of the dams next month.
The Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, George Oduro, who made the disclosure, stated that all was set for the policy to be implemented.
According to him, the policy would also help to ensure that farmers in the country are able to work all year round.
Speaking on radio in Kumasi yesterday, the deputy minister urged Ghanaians to exercise restraint because the government would fulfill all its promises.
Highlighting more on the ‘One Village, One Dam’ policy, Mr. Oduro said the programme is under the Ministry of Special Initiatives, adding, “They are doing a good job.”
According to him, the Ministry of Special Initiatives had done everything necessary behind the scenes to ensure a smooth take-off of the programme.
Mr. Oduro was of the opinion that when it finally gets implemented, the country will derive a lot of benefits from it.
He therefore heaped tonnes of praises on President Akufo-Addo for the vision to introduce the policy.
“This particular programme will go a long way to ensure constant food production, food security and protection and so we should all embrace it,” the deputy minister charged.
