Otumfuo Osei Tutu II
THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool of Asanteman, has clocked 70 years today.
Otumfuo who is the last born of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, ascended the throne exactly 21 years ago in 1999.
Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the country and the need for the public to ensure social distancing, the Asantehene’s birthday, which is normally celebrated amid pomp and pageantry at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, would not be the case today.
Scores of people from the various backgrounds in the country have taken to the various social media platforms to wish Otumfuo a memorable birthday.
Some of the people prayed fervently for God to continue to protect and bless him to live longer and continue to lead Asanteman and Ghana into affluence.
Otumfuo, who was educated locally and abroad, succeeded his late brother, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, as Asantehene at a grand ceremony in 1999.
His ascension to the throne has come as a blessing to Asanteman and Ghana, as he continues to contribute his quota to make the country better for the people.
