Lady Julia and Osei Assibey being welcomed to the Bantama market in Kumasi on Friday
THE KUMASI Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, will certainly be a happy man as no mean a personality but Lady Julia, the wife of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has approved of his splendid works so far.
According to Lady Julia, Osei Assibey, has within his short stay in office, proven that he is determined to introduce pragmatic programmes and policies that will help transform Kumasi.
She said she was particularly impressed about the Kumasi Mayor’s passion to deal with the filthy surroundings in the city and also work assiduously for Kumasi to reclaim its lost ‘Garden City’ status.
Lady Julia stated that the Kumasi Mayor is on the right track. Hence, she implored residents of the city to throw their weight behind him so that his good intentions to develop Kumasi would be achieved.
The Asantehene’s wife was addressing traders at the Bantama Market after she had visited the busy market on Friday morning to personally examine how traders that were relocated to the place by the KMA were faring.
Lady Julia, accompanied by Osei Assibey Antwi, Ing Nana Poku Agyeman, the Kumasi Urban Roads Director and other lieutenants of the assembly, responded to wild cheers from the elated-looking traders.
Continuing, she said she had confidence in the Kumasi Mayor and the assembly with regard to the relocation of traders from the streets and other unapproved places to the various satellite markets in Kumasi.
Lady Julia stated that KMA’s approach, regarding the relocation exercise, was the best and so she entreated the traders and all residents of the city to wholeheartedly support the assembly to carry out that task.
She noted that Osei Assibey Antwi has proved that he is a trustworthy person as regards leading the KMA into affluence; therefore there is the strong need for the traders to co-operate with him to develop Kumasi.
“This Kumasi Mayor always fulfils whatever he says he will do, so I have strong confidence in him that he will do whatever he has promised to do”, the Asantehene’s wife said.
Lady Julia also expressed sadness about how some people try to thwart the KMA’s effort to make the city tidy by throwing garbage at unapproved areas, admonishing the people to play roles to make Kumasi clean.
She strongly cautioned that littering the city would lead to floods and other environmental hazards, which would eventually make life unbearable for the residents.
Osei Assibey Antwi stressed that so far every action or decision taken by the KMA was intended to develop the city so as to improve the living conditions of the populace; hence, he called for total support from Kumasi residents.
He disclosed that his main agenda was to work harder in order to speed up the development of Kumasi. He therefore appealed to the citizenry to support him so that together they can grow Kumasi to enviable status.
