Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Papa Owusu-Ankomah, has called for unity in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the face of some party members jostling for a running mate post.

According to him, ensuring unity in the NPP should be the utmost priority of all party executives at all levels in order to break the 8-year cycle of political power transitions.

Speaking at the launch of the UK branch of Friends of Bawumia (FOB) in London, Mr. Owusu-Ankomah urged NPP members not to let anything derail the fortunes of the party and its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the December 7, 2024 elections.

The High Commissioner noted that Ghana, which is in a phase of transition, needs a transformational leader like Dr. Bawumia to implement mechanisms to modernise the economy in the same way that industrialized countries do.

Mr. Owusu-Ankomah praised the 2024 NPP flagbearer as a leader who possesses the key to Ghana’s prosperity and development.

He identified the implementation of policies oriented towards digitizing Ghana’s economy as one of Dr. Bawumia’s strengths.

He urged the group to be selfless and work hard to retain the NPP in power in this year’s elections.

The High Commissioner also commended the leadership of the FOB and urged them to embrace all, including supporters of all former presidential aspirants.

Henry Nana Boakye aka Nana B, National Organiser of the party, praised the government for its achievements.

According to him, despite the adverse impacts of COVID-19 and the Ukraine war, the NPP government has established more factories than any other government in the country’s history.

He stated that the government will commission 40 newly constructed hospitals under Agenda 111 to improve healthcare services in the country, adding that no government has ever made such an unparalleled record.

Nana B stated that throughout his term, NDC flagbearer, ex-President John Dramani Mahama failed to complete the Kumawu Government Hospital, which had been started by former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
