Party Forms Missing

There are reports of missing forms in some constituencies in the Ashanti Region ahead of the primaries of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect its polling station executives.

The crucial election is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, January 17, this year, but some party members have complained bitterly about discrimination in the distribution of the forms.

Sources in the party said the discrepancies have taken place in Asawase and Atwima Nwabiagya Constituencies.

The paper gathered that some forms were distributed at night in some constituencies in the region.

Rumours have it that the forms were only given to some supporters of some regional party executives.

Some of the angry party members, who expressed their anger on radio, stated that if the party’s leadership in Accra fails to intervene in the Ashanti Region, there would be deep cracks in the NPP after the polls.

They said the party had been hijacked by some ‘selfish’ party members in the region.

If the party’s leadership at the national quarters fails to act surely there would be confusion in the NPP, they added.

Meanwhile, Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka ‘Wontumi’, the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, has insisted that the impending polling station elections would take place on Wednesday.

According to him, the elections would be held across the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region from 10am to 12 noon, adding that by 1pm the winners would be declared.

Wontumi said on radio that ideally the polls should have been held in 30 minutes across the various constituencies but the authorities had increased the duration to two hours to ensure peaceful polls.
