Veteran highlife musician, Paulina Oduro, has clarified reports misquoting her statement about Kofi Kinaata and the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

Speaking on Empire 102.7 FM, she dismissed claims that she said Kinaata was “bigger” than the awards scheme, urging the media to report accurately.

“Oh, Chaley! I think these bloggers should get their facts right,” she allegedly said. “What I actually said was that it’s not a big deal. Kofi is loved all over Ghana; he’s a big artiste and should not be worried about whether he’s nominated or not. TGMA has been around for a long time; Kofi can never be bigger than that show. But as an artist, he is big!”

The controversy stemmed from Kofi Kinaata’s absence from the Artiste of the Year category at the 26th TGMA, despite multiple nominations driven by the success of his Kofi oo Kofi EP. The omission sparked disappointment among fans, with some blogs misinterpreting Paulina Oduro’s remarks in her effort to encourage the artist.

With her clarification, she hopes to put the issue to rest, reaffirming that Kinaata is a major force in Ghanaian music, but the TGMA remains an essential platform for recognizing industry talents.
