The May Day holiday at Achimota Golf Club, saw the return of the Club Match Play with the launch of the PaySwitch Achimota Club Match Play.
64 Club members assembled for a singles Club Matchplay tournament sponsored by PaySwitch Ltd and would be played in six stages ending with a Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and then final in July to crown the PaySwitch Matchplay Champion.
The first round of the Matchplay tournament, saw 32 golfers of Achimota Golf Club emerge as winners to qualify for the second round to be played between May 5 and 18.
The CEO of PaySwitch, Kojo Choi who is an executive member of the Achimota Golf Club Council was knocked out on the 18th hole in the first round by Mr. Alistair Rushton of the British High Commission.
When asked about his game, Choi reported that he played well but lost to a worthy opponent.
Other notable exits from the first round of the tournament were the Vice Captain, Sjoerd Grueter, Past Captain Dr. Frank Adu Jnr., – MD of Cal Bank – who was in the final of the 2016 edition.
Club Captain Mark Cofie Jnr, triumphed over Henry Kerali, the World Bank Country Director for Ghana to proceed to the next round.
President of the club, Eddie Addo made light work of his match against Ofori Boateng.
Some of the other members that qualified to the next round include Mr. Michael Obeng, Mrs. Ama Morgan, Mr. Kwaku Ofosuhene, Geoff Grant and Mike Aggrey, president of the GGA and Past Captain of the club.
The PaySwitch Achimota Golf Club Matchplay 2018 is set to be fiercely fought over the next few months as the field is whittled down to the final two golfers, one of whom will be crowned Champion this year.
