The People’s National Convention (PNC) leadership has given a stern warning to the organizers of the Occupy Bank of Ghana (BoG) protest being spearheaded by the NDC Minority in Parliament, not to include the party in the upcoming event.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Asana Nabla, the party expressed its anger with the organizers for disregarding the leadership of the PNC and going ahead to include them on a list of opposition political parties to join the protest march.
“The People’s National Convention’s (PNC’s) attention has been drawn to a flyer with the party’s logo trending on social media that claims the party will participate in the Occupy Bank Demo.”
“The party is issuing a stem warning to the organizers of the protest and demanding that they remove the party’s name immediately from the flyer,” the statement noted.
The statement said the PNC considers the convener’s decision to include the party on its flyer without first consulting the party as an act of disrespect.
“If this happens once again, the party will bring legal action against the convener,” the statement warned.
This follows a recent flyer that went viral and listed PNC as one of the political parties that will be attending the demonstration which is being organized by Dr. AtoForson and the NDC party leadership.
According to the flyer, the Occupy BoG demo will come off on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 8:00 am under the theme, “Stop the stealing; we are suffering.”
In addition, the flyer listed a number of political organizations that were involved in organizing the protest, including the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), the All Progressive Congress (APC), the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), and the People’s National Convention (PNC).
Other organisations include the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), the Federation of Concerned Arts Professionals (FOCAP), and The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) Ghana among others.
The demonstration, according to the organisers, is intended to call out the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his lieutenants to vacate their posts after they allegedly supervised the loss of GH¢60.8 billion.
The PNC’s leadership, however, holds a different opinion as evidenced by its unhappiness with the pressure group and demand for an unequivocal apology from the protest’s organizers.
