THE MAMPONTENG District Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in the Ashanti Region are seriously hunting for a ‘heartless’ tricycle rider, who is currently at large.
The unknown rider, reportedly, fled the scene after knocking down a 53-year-old man, Owusu Boahen, who was standing by the roadside at Kasem, with his tricycle.
Boahen, who was said to have sustained life-threatening injuries after the accident, was rushed to the Asonomaso Hospital to help save his life, but he succumbed to his injuries and died.
The sad incident, according to the police, happened around 7 p.m. on September 20, 2025, and it attracted scores of curious people to the scene, but the rider eluded police arrest.
“On 24/09/2025 at 9:30 a.m., Prince Asare of Safo came to the station and reported that on 20/09/2025 about 1900 hours a hit-and-run tricycle (Pragia) knocked down his brother, Owusu Boahen, aged 53 (now deceased) at the shoulder of the road at Kasem and bolted with the accident tricycle.
“He further stated that the deceased was standing at the shoulder of the road facing Asonomaso direction and was knocked down.
“Victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Asonomaso Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
“Body was conveyed and deposited at Zion Praise Hospital Mortuary, Kona, for preservation and autopsy,” a police statement, which has been sighted by the paper, disclosed.
It further stated that “on receipt of the complaint, police together with the complainant, visited Zion Praise Hospital Mortuary, Kona, where the deceased was seen and autographed.”
According to the police, they have opened investigation into the case and intensified their search for the arrest of the hit-and-run rider to assist in investigations.
