THE POLICE at Mampong in the Ashanti Region are said to be hunting for a gang of suspected armed robbers, who reportedly robbed a fuel station in the area last week Friday.
The suspects, who according to eyewitnesses reports, looked like teenagers with Fulani extraction, invaded the filling station and succeeded in robbing the owner of the facility an unspecified amount of money.
The suspected robbers were said to be heavily armed and managed to enter a thick bush to escape arrest.
This paper learnt that the police received a distress call about the activities of the robbers very late and so even though they rushed to the crime scene, the robbers had already vanished before they arrived.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness whose name is being withheld, said on Nhyira Fm in Kumasi that when they arrived at the filing station, the robbers started firing gunshots, which scared the people,.
According to him, two of the robbers then blocked the road that links Asante Mampong-Kumasi with the aid of their dangerous guns as the two others entered the manager’s office and robbed him of the money.
The eyewitness said a mobile money attendant, who transacts business on the premises of the filling station, was robbed first by the criminals before descending on the station.
Luckily, he said, no deaths were recorded during the raid.
