Ninepolling station agents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Wenchi have turned their backs on the Municipal Chief Executive asking that the President replaces him.
“We, the under-listed polling station executives and supporters of the Great New Patriotic Party in Wenchi Constituency whose signatures and thumbprints below do hereby resolve that we have completely lost confidence in Dr. KwakyeAfriyie and therefore call for the termination of his appointment as the Municipal Chief,” they stated in an undated petition.
The signatories who leveled several allegations against the MCE are Mary Nyarko, Atta Kyei Amos, Yaw Ajiga, Baba Seidu, AmoakoGyebi Kissinger, Kwame Twum, Tabiri Evans, Rita Serwaa and Albert Adjei, including Joseph AbrefaTwum and Martin Nyarko from Droboso.
They have accused Dr. KwakyeAfriyie of, as they put it,“deliberately dividing the rank and file of the party to the extent that the NPP can no longer win any general election if he is retained for four years.”
They also accused him of not using the Common Fund to undertake any meaningful development project in the constituency. This, they added, has led to the deterioration of roads in food-growing areas. This, they said, accounted for the party’s electoral failure in the last elections.
When DAILY GUIDE contacted the MCE, he dismissed the allegations as lacking substance.
The allegations being leveled against him, he said, originated from a few persons as he asked rhetorically “where are the party chairman and the majority of the members?”
Continuing, he said that a team was on its way to inspect projects undertaken through the Common Fund. “These are mere allegations,” he added.
He directed DAILY GUIDEto call the constituency party chairman and the organiser, who he said can best attest to his stewardship.
Those behind the petition have a hidden agenda, he said.
When contacted, Karim Imoru, constituency party organiser, rubbished the allegations and stated that the MCE maintains a cordial relationship with party executives.
The MCE has used the Common Fund to put up a modern school in the constituency.
