A pregnant woman who was due for a Caesarean Section (CS) at a hospital yesterday has been found dead. She was believed to have been clubbed to death by unknown assailants.
The pregnant woman, identified as Nyame Yie, was carrying twins, according to information on her hospital folder, when the unfortunate incident happened.
According to sources, the woman was found lying dead in a bush at Shama Bentsir in the Western Region, with a deep cut on her head.
It was also revealed that semen was found around her thighs indicating that the assailants might have raped the pregnant woman before killing her.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that so far one person, whose name was given only as Ato, had been arrested by the police to assist in investigations.
Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE in an interview, the assembly member for Shama Bentsir electoral area, Emmanuel Mark Ackon, narrated that at about 5:30am yesterday, he had a report that someone was lying in a bush in the area motionless.
“We could not ascertain whether the person was dead so I organized some people to go to the scene and when they got there they found a dead pregnant woman who was suspected to have been killed”, he added.
He continued “we looked at her folder and realized that she was carrying twins and was even due for CS at the hospital so we quickly called in the police. After carefully examining the body we realized that the assailants even had sex with her since semen was seen around her thighs”.
The assembly member indicated that from the look of things, the assailants might have hit the deceased with a stick or a club on the head which resulted in the deep cut on her head.
He pointed out that the body of the deceased with the foetus had been deposited at a hospital morgue pending autopsy.
The assembly member told DAILY GUIDE that the deceased hailed from Apam in the Central Region and that she was in the Shama area to visit her husband who is a fisherman.
But when she visited a hospital in the area, she was booked for a caesarean section yesterday. Unfortunately she met her untimely death.
The assembly member revealed that the woman’s husband was expected to return yesterday from a fishing expedition.
Woman, 50 Killed
In a related development, a 50-year old woman has allegedly been smacked to death with a pestle purportedly by her own son at Wassa Simpa in the Western Region.
The 20-year old suspect, identified as Augustine Armah, was said to have smacked his mother with a pestle.
The suspect, an illegal miner who is currently in the grips of the Nsuaem District Police Command, was alleged to have carried out the barbaric act after the mother allegedly cursed him over some petty squabbles.
Narrating the story to the journalists, Supt Jonas Kofi Agbevam, Nsuaem District Police Commander stated that, the deceased, Kyere Aso, a petty trader, lived with her son in Wassa Simpa, a suburb of Tarkwa.
He said the deceased and the son had some argument and it was alleged that Aso cursed her son Armah that he would never be able to marry.
Supt Agbevam added that the suspect who is currently unemployed due to the ban on illegal small scale mining had been scavenging for a lady to settle down with but to no avail.
He said Armah attributed his plight to his mother’s curses she pronounced on him.
He narrated that in the late hours of Friday September 14, 2018, a similar quarrel ensued between them and the deceased repeated the same utterances.
Superintendent Agbevam revealed that Armah who was under the influence of alcohol went to the deceased and pleaded with her to revoke the curse on him.
According to him, Aso declined his request and this provoked Armah who went for a pestle and smacked her on the neck and bolted.
Some neighbours rushed the woman to the Dompim Health Centre, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police arrested Armah on the same day from his hideout and he is in police custody, with investigations ongoing.
