Some teachers who are against the government decision of procuring laptops for them are threatening to shut down all Union offices across the country if their money is not refunded by end of December.
The agitating teachers threat follows the deductions from their welfare funds for the purchase of laptops to aid their work.
The angry teachers announced their grievances on Wednesday, after marching to the various offices of the teacher unions in Accra, to put forward their demands.
Meanwhile, the government in collaboration with the Teacher Unions has started the distribution of laptops to all teachers in public schools from September across the country.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who recently announced the initiative dubbed ‘One Teacher One Laptop’, stated that the project is to help improve the quality of teaching.
Dr. Bawumia explained that teachers will bear 30 percent of the cost while government absorbs the remaining 70 percent.
However, some teachers have jointly sued the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Attorney-General, and the Education Ministry over the contract awarded to K.A Technologies Ghana Limited, the first defendant.
The plaintiffs are demanding that the sole-sourced contract awarded to K. A Technologies Ghana Limited be annulled because it is contrary to sections 40 a, b, c, d, and e of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663), among other claims.
