Adjoa Gyakoa Appiah- Kubi – The reigning Child Sanitation Diplomat
The reigning Child Sanitation Diplomat, Adjoa Gyakoa Appiah-Kubi, has called on adults to refrain from open defecation and set a good example for children to follow.
“This is a call that children will forever make until we notice the change that we desire”.
The Child Sanitation Diplomat again called on parents, and individuals in authority to refrain from bad sanitation practices and provide their families and institutions with the needed sanitary facilities.
She made this known at the 34th Edition of the Annual Mole WASH Conference Series held at Jirapa in the Upper West Region.
Adjoa Gyakoa Appiah- Kubi, thanked CONIWAS for responding positively and swiftly to a request made by her predecessor Child Sanitation Diplomat, Maame Akua Ohenewaa Gyima, that the organizers of the Mole Conference should establish a permanent session for children.
She later interacted with children on sanitation and hygiene as part of the Mole Conference, the first of its kind in the 34-year history of the conference.
“Wish that in addition to the Child Sanitation Diplomat initiative, there will be other child-centered innovations to provide more opportunities for children to learn and contribute to creating the world that we want. As a sanitation campaigner, I also promise to avail myself whenever possible, to support efforts to advocate for change and to sensitize the masses,” she said.
The Mole conference is an annual gathering that brings together WASH practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders from across the globe to share insights, innovations, and chart the course forward for the sector.
As part of efforts to support the media in the WASH sector, World Vision Ghana and GAMA Sanitation and Water Project sponsored some selected journalists from the Media Coalition against Open Defecation (M-CODe) to partake in this year’s Mole Conference in Jirapa in the Upper West region.
