Rotary Club of Accra and Accra Ridge have jointly celebrated the National Blood Donor Day at the National Blood Service (NBS) of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NBS, Dr. Justina K. Ansah, appealed to Ghanaians, particularly those between the ages of 17 to 60 years, to make it a point to donate blood at least twice a year by taking advantage of blood donation drives in their communities, churches, workplaces and during other special occasions such as festivals.
For her part, the President of Rotary Club of Accra, Theresa Haligah, said Rotary would continue to support the National Blood Service to focus on blood collection from low risk population areas as a means to improve access to blood transfusion and to promote blood safety.
She urged Ghanaians, especially health workers, civil society organisations, religious bodies and corporate institutions to intensify advocacy on blood donation activities nationwide.
Various individuals and corporate organisations were awarded for their contributions towards increasing voluntary blood collection.
Rotarian David Som-Amoah, Rotary Director for Blood Donation, was presented with Rotary International Blood Donation vest for his 22 years of service to the Rotary Club of Accra.
