Energy Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has won his defamation case filed against National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi.
An Accra High Court, General Jurisdiction 12, presided over by Justice Charles Gyamfi Danquah foundl Sammy Gyamfi guilty of defaming the Energy Minister at a press conference in June 2019 when he alleged that one of the suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapping of some two Canadian girls in Kumasi, Seidu Mba, was his (Dr. Prempeh’s) errand boy.
“Seidu Yakubu, suspected of being involved in the kidnapping of the two Canadian girls in the year 2019, is the errand boy of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh,” he alleged.
Sammy Gyamfi made this unsubstantiated remarks when Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was the Minister of Education in 2019.
After several years which the case travelled, the court finally ruled in favour of the minister and has therefore awarded damages of GH¢500,000 against Sammy Gyamfi.
Beside that the court also ordered Mr. Gyamfi to publish a retraction and an apology.
