It appears there is serious acrimony among the New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives in the Savannah Region following the decision of Mohammed Issah, the Regional Secretary of the party to announce his refusal to attend any official meetings which would be held at the residence of the Regional Chairman, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana.
Issah cites personal safety and security concerns as the main reasons behind this decision.
Issah’s decision stems from a distressing incident that occurred during a meeting held at the Regional Chairman’s Damango residence on August 26, 2023.
He was verbally and physically attacked by the Regional Chairman’s assign/bodyguard in the presence of other Regional Executives and guests.
This is not the first time such an incident has taken place. A few months ago, the Regional Youth Organizer, Rafael Akati Mahama, was also attacked by another bodyguard in the middle of a meeting with the Regional Chairman at his residence in Tamale.
Concerned about his personal well-being and the safety of his family, Issah believes that his presence at the Chairman’s residence would jeopardize his security.
He emphasizes that he lacks the financial means to hire bodyguards for protection. Consequently, he asserts that his decision not to participate in meetings at the Chairman’s residence is vital for his own survival and the continuity of his work for the NPP.
To ensure the smooth functioning of the party in the Savannah Region, Issah proposes alternatives to hold meetings.
The New Patriotic Party’s Regional Secretariat, which includes a conference room, has been secured for this purpose.
Additionally, if necessary, facilities in the capital city can be arranged for meetings.
Issah expresses his hope for understanding and consideration from the party leadership in light of this decision.
He emphasizes the importance of his personal safety in order to effectively serve the NPP and its goals.
The New Patriotic Party at the national level has been informed of this situation and will likely engage in discussions to address the concerns raised by Mohammed Issah, the Savannah Regional Secretary.
This incident has cast a spotlight on the need for increased security measures within political parties to ensure the safety of its members. It remains to be seen how the NPP will respond to this issue and what steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Stay tuned for further developments on this matter as it unfolds.
