Savelugu Cops Still In Rented Quarters

DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the police in the Savelugu-Nantong Municipality live in rented apartments in the area due to the lack of accommodation for the service.

The Savelugu-Nantong Police Command currently has only two quarters which were built by the municipal assembly.

The municipality is one of the largest in the Northern Region with two constituencies, and the police command only has one vehicle to carry out its operations.

Inadequate vehicles in the municipality negatively affect the operations of the police in tackling crime in the area.

The Savulugu-Nantong Municipality Police Commander, ASP Peter Tawiah told DAILY GUIDE that “our personnel have rented houses and we feel something better can be done about the current situation.”

According to him, the police have a large tract of land that could be used to build more housing units for police personnel.

He indicated that providing accommodation to police personnel would enhance their operations.

ASP Peter Tawiah stated that they would request for more police personnel if more houses are built for them.

The commander called for the renovation of the current police station.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Savelugu Constituency Muhammed Abdul-Samed Gunu,? has donated a brand new computer with a modem, printer and stationery valued at GH?3,500 to the police.

He also donated hand gloves and other items to the Pong Tamale Health Center at a cost of GH?2,000.

According to the MP, the donation would go a long way to help enhance policing in the municipality.

He assured the police that he would make more donations to enhance the relationship between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the police.

Hon. Muhammed Abdul-Samed Gunu said that he would collaborate with other stakeholders to a find lasting solution to the accommodation problem facing police in the area.
