Seikwa Chief Shot Dead

Nana Kwadwo Taano Naansi

THE GYAASEHENE of Seikwa Traditional Area in the Tain District of the Brong-Ahafo Region, Nana Kwadwo Taano Naansi, 65, has reportedly been shot dead by unknown assailants whilst he was watching a television programme  in his living room.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital in Sunyani for autopsy. One of two ladies, Fati Musa, who were  said to be watching the programme with the chief before he was shot through a glass window, sustained injuries in the thigh and was rushed to Seikwa Health Centre for treatment.

The second lady, Margret Adjabeng, escaped unhurt, according to the police.

Police Public Relations Officer for the region, Chief Inspector Augustine Kinsley Oppong, confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE and said investigation was underway.

Explaining what happened, Chief Inspector Oppong said as the traditional ruler was watching the TV with the two ladies at about 7:30 pm, he received a phone call and went out to listen to the caller.

He claimed that fter the conversation, the chief returned to the room and within minutes, there was a gun shot through the glass window, and the bullet hit his head from behind and so he fell down unconscious.

He said the chief was rushed to Seikwa Health Centre but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Chief Inspector Oppong said nobody had been arrested yet, but the crime scene had been sealed off as investigation goes on.

Seikwa has gained notoriety for the assassination of chiefs. The Omanhene of the area, Nana Kwaku Dwumah Ankoana II, 64, was also gunned down in the same manner by unknown assailants in 2013.

The culprit(s) are still at large whilst the claimants to the throne are still battling it out in court as to who is the rightful person to succeed Nana Kwaku Dwumah Ankoana II.

This time round, the police have promised to use all means to arrest the culprit(s).
