The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has implored organisations, businesses and individuals to ensure regular and prompt payment of their taxes.
Officials of the state agency in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, warned Ghanaians to regularly pay their taxes to avoid the payment of severe penalties.
Speaking at a media encounter in Kumasi last Friday, Samuel Sakyi Duodu, Assistant Commissioner at the Asokwa Medium Tax Office (MTO), urged the citizenry to file their tax returns by April, this year in accordance with the law.
GRA, he said, had put plans in place to introduce electronic or online filing of tax returns to ensure convenience and efficiency by the middle of the year.
He appealed to the media to support the Authority to sensitise taxpayers about its activities.
According to him, the ongoing registration for Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) was necessary to build a database for all Ghanaians to identify potential taxpayers and facilitate business transactions.
Mr. Duodu also explained that the introduction of the excise tax stamp in Ghana would help check unwholesome products that are imported into the country.
Isaac K. M. Quaye of the Adum Small Tax Office stressed the need for Ghanaians to pay serious attention to the registration for TINs, filing of returns and payment of taxes to avoid penalties.
He said the payment of taxes has become topical in Ghana currently.
