Daniel Asiedu aka Sexy Don Don
The investigator in the murder of the late JB Danquah-Adu, the then Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North in the Eastern Region, has insisted that Daniel Asiedu, alias Sexy Don Don, is responsible for the murder of the MP.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (rtd) Daniel Nkrumah, while under cross-examination by counsel for the accused, indicated that there is enough evidence to show that the accused was at the scene where the MP was murdered.
“The first accused (Asiedu) was at the crime scene and there are ample evidence to show he was at crime scene,” the retired investigator told the court.
Daniel Asiedu is before the court facing charges of murder and conspiracy to commit robbery, while Vincent Bosso has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
DNA Exhibits
ASP (rtd) Nkrumah on August 13, 2022, tendered in evidence nine items relating to the murder of the then MP.
The items which include those picked from the crime scene as well as DNA swabs from House Number 10 (a house opposite the late MP’s across the street) returned DNA results that matched the DNA of Daniel Asiedu, the prime suspect in the murder.
The case investigator, Augustus Nkrumah, led in his evidence-in-chief by Sefakor Batse, a Principal State Attorney, told the court that the items picked from the crime scene and the other house were forwarded to the forensic laboratory for analysis and a report was issued on them.
According to him, the lab results showed that a blood-stained cup which was found in one of the polytanks behind the late MP’s house returned DNA result that matched that of Daniel Asiedu 100 percent.
Another item is a blood-stained T-shirt with the inscription ‘Hemisphere’ which both Asiedu and his girlfriend confirmed as belonging to accused and what he wore on the day of the incident also returned a DNA result that matched Daniel Asiedu’s 100 percent.
A blood-stained cup which the accused used to fetch water from a drum in a house opposite that of the late MP’s also returned a DNA result that matched Daniel Asiedu’s 100 percent.
Daniel Asiedu, according to the prosecution and a witness in the case, used the cup to fetch water in a drum to wash himself in the opposite house after committing the crime.
The other exhibit is blood-stained bedsheet found in the late MP’s bedroom which had the DNA results of the deceased.
Cross-Examination
Yaw Dankwa, counsel for the accused, while cross-examining the investigator suggested that he and his investigative team failed Ghanaians about the truth on who killed JB Danquah-Adu “and you are sitting in that chair to persecute the accused persons and not help the court establish who killed JB.”
“I am in this court to testify to the truth, which is that the first accused (Asiedu) who killed the MP,” the investigator responded.
The lawyer also suggested to the investigator that he could not tell the court about the time and certification of the death of the MP because he had made up his mind to label Daniel Asiedu just so the entire Police Service would not be in “shamble.”
ASP (rtd) Nkrumah refuted this allegation and indicated that, “Per our investigations, the killer was found and is no other person than the first accused person (Asiedu).”
Time of Death
When asked about his roles in the investigations, he said when the murder case was reported, Assistant Commissioner of Police Daniel Abandoe led a team of officers to the MP’s house.
He said despite being the main investigator, he was also the recorder at the crime scene, so he was best fit to testify in the case.
ASP (rtd) Nkrumah, however, said he could not tell the specific time that the deceased body was conveyed from his house to the mortuary.
The case continues today before a High Court in Accra presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo.
