There was spontaneous jubilation at Shama on Monday when the members of the Shama District Assembly in the Western Region confirmed the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE) Joseph Amoah.

Mr Amoah, who was overwhelmingly endorsed, polled 20 votes out of the 25 votes cast, representing 80 percent in an election supervised by the Electoral Commission.

Prior to the confirmation some persons believed to be NPP activists organized a demonstration in the district to oppose the president’s nominee.

After the demonstration, members of the Shama Traditional Council condemned the action and pledged their support for the president’s nominee to ensure the rapid development of Shama District.

Some members of the ‘Asafo company’ in the area also organized a press conference and threatened to ensure the rejection of the president’s nominee.

They also claimed they would not work with him if the assembly members approved him.

The Deputy Western Regional Minister, Gifty Eugenia Kusi, who inaugurated the new DCE, applauded the assembly members for reposing confidence in the DCE.

He was optimistic the endorsement given to Mr Amoah would ensure the smooth implementation of government programmes and policies in the area.

She called for unity among the people of Shama and admonished the DCE to take measures to enhance the development of the area.

Mr. Amoah thanked President Akufo-Addo for reposing confidence in him and assured the people of his commitment to ensuring the development of the district, particularly in the area of sports.
He also promised to prioritize education, health, agriculture and the economic empowerment of women and youth of the area.
In a related development, Christian Baah, the president’s nominee for Suaman District secured 100 percent.

In the Sefwi Akontombra District, Yawson Amoah was also confirmed by the assembly members after he polled 21 votes out of 22 votes cast.
