GLOBE PRODUCTIONS is set to stage a theatrical masterpiece that symbolises a new dawn in Ghana-Korea cultural collaboration and a celebration of storytelling across borders, titled ‘Sim Majorley’.

The well-crafted stage play will take place at the Accra International Conference Centre on August 9, 2025. There will be two showings. First show at 4pm and second show at 8pm.

The play, which is in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ghana, is an adaptation of one of Korea’s most cherished folk tales, ‘The Story of Sim Cheong’, and will be performed within the context of the Ga tradition, under the title, ‘Sim Majorley’.

Sim Majorley tells the heartwarming tale of a devoted daughter whose only wish is to restore her blind father’s sight. In a world riddled with poverty, societal expectations, and spiritual tests, Majorley offers herself as a sacrifice to the sea gods in exchange for her father’s healing.

This production comes on the heels of what has been a remarkable journey for Globe Productions, from staging three successful Ghana–Spain theatrical collaborations, to a powerful Ghana–Italy stage exchange, and most recently, the nationwide success of ‘Ghana Must Go’, which sparked conversations, laughter, pride, and a renewed appreciation for their collective identity.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Accra, Latif Abubakar stated that the stage play, which is a fusion of heritage, heart, and hope, is another bold step, one that underscores the unifying power of theatre.

He noted that by placing the Korean story within the cultural rhythms, language, and symbolism of the Ga people, “we have not only preserved the essence of the Korean original but also created a platform for cross-cultural understanding, creative fusion, and mutual appreciation.”

Latif emphasised that the partnership is a shared dream where Ghana and Korea, through the arts, create a bridge of empathy, exchange, and enduring friendship.

“We are immensely grateful to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea for believing in the power of theatre, and for supporting this vision that celebrates both Ubuntu and unity in its truest form,” he stated.

Mr. Park Kyongsig, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ghana, said the stage play is a major highlight of the forthcoming Korean Cultural Festival, which takes place at Tema on August 9.

“What makes the story of Sim Cheong’s performance unique is that it has been reinterpreted through the Ghanaian lens and performed by Ghanaian actors. This production represents a meaningful cultural collaboration between Korea and Ghana, bringing together the heritage of both nations on a single stage.”
