The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu is expected to meet face to face with the legal team of the Ghana Police Service in court today, November 8, 2021 after several weeks of playing hide and seek following criminal summons issued by the Ghana Police Service.
Following the police’s inability reach Sosu for interrogation, they proceeded to court where criminal summons were issued against him.
He has been charged with unlawfully blocking a public road and the destruction of public property after he led his constituents in Ayi-Mensah, Danfa and the Otinibi stretch of the La Nkwantanang -Madina Municipality in a violent demonstration over poor roads in the area on October 25, 2021.
However, the spokesperson of the MP, Abdul Hamid Bansi Abubakar claims that the MP had not been served any summons thereby accusing the police of peddling falsehood.
Shockingly, the MP for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafaemekpor has disclosed that Sosu is on parliamentary duties outside the country.
He therefore stressed that his colleague has not been served by the police to appear in court.
The acting Director-General of the Police Public Affairs Department, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, insists that the MP has been duly served relative to his role in the violent protest on October 25, 2021.
“On November 8, we will all meet at the very court and should he honour that the police will come up properly with what they have and what he will also tell the court, we will meet at the court.
“And we cannot and cannot predict but our stand is that we have taken the matter to the court and here we are, all parties will submit themselves to the court,” the Director General said.
Following the demonstration, the police have been unsuccessful in their attempts to arrest Sosu with Parliament flagging its privileges and requesting proper procedures for MPs who must face criminal prosecution.
Police statement also announced the interdiction of Inspector Daniel Agbavor, a police officer providing personal protection to Sosu, for allegedly driving into a crowd on October 25, 2021, after an attempted arrest of the MP.
