Javier Gutierrez

The Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, Javier Gutierrez, has said supporting Ghana’s energy sector to grow remains one of his key visions as an envoy.

He said he would work assiduously to help improve Spain and Ghana’s relationship in the energy sector, which is key to development, to the mutual benefit of the two countries.

Mr. Gutierrez made the pronouncement when he paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, recently.

The ambassador, who was accompanied by some of the staff of the Spanish Embassy in Accra, said his country and Ghana could work and achieve more in the energy sector.

The Spain Ambassador said he would dedicate his time to help improve Spain-Ghana partnership in the tourism sector to expedite tourism development.

He also said sanitation, infrastructure, environment and health would be given maximum attention during his tenure in the country.

He said he has plans of opening a Spanish Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to promote the learning of Spanish language.

Otumfuo called for a deepened collaboration between the Manhyia Palace and the Spanish Embassy to identify investment opportunities in the Ashanti Region that can translate into jobs.

“Let us identify opportunities that can be transformed into employable and economically viable enterprises for the people of Spain and Ghana and Ashanti to benefit from,” the Asantehene said.

The Asante King lauded the various initiatives and efforts of Mr. Gutierrez so far, and entreated him to sustain his works to benefit the two countries.
