Board Chairman of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, has presented a cheque for GHĀ¢300,000 to the Pensionerās Association to support its medical scheme during the 25th anniversary celebration.
He said SSNIT was concerned about the wellbeing of pensioners and would continue to take care of their health needs.
He promised that other benefits would be sent to Parliament for approval in the interest of pensioners.
Dr. Addo Kufour, who made the presentation on behalf of SSNIT in Accra Thursday at Osu, revealed that there had been loopholes and leakages at SSNIT and had been working hard over the past eight months to deal with the rot.
āWe will not hesitate in holding your interest first at SSNIT, weāve being working hard in the past months and have succeeded in blocking the leakages that persisted and have been retarding our progress.ā
He said that it was unfortunate for SSNIT to be in the news for bad reasons for such a long time, adding that āwe will restore SSNITās image and make sure we pick up our real responsibility and contribute meaningfully to the best interest of pensioners.ā
Dr. Addo Kufour hinted that the PriceWaterHouse report would soon be out for the relevant authorities to take steps to stabilize and put SSNIT in good standing.
General Secretary of the Pensionersā Association, Edward Ameyibor, expressed the Associationās gratitude to SSNIT for supporting pensioners over the years.
He recounted the numerous support they had received from SSNIT over the past years.
āYou gave us accommodation at all your District and Regional Offices, took care of our transportation and paid our pension regularly and we are grateful.ā
