The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is set to launch an app to help improve its service delivery.
SSNIT says the app will render a number of services including, a request for SSNIT clearance, and payment of monthly contributions via mobile money among others.
This is so that its clients will not necessarily have to travel to its offices to be attended to.
Speaking to Citi Business News, Director General of SSNIT, Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, indicated that the introduction of the app was timely especially with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are in the digital age and in fact even with COVID-19 coming on, we need to be more electronic in the way we discharge our duties. So, a lot of people have been calling for the SSNIT app so that they can transact business on their mobile phone, and as I said, I wanted this (mobile phone) to be your closest and nearest SSNIT branch,” he said.
He added that plans were far advanced to launch the app by June this year.
“We are planning to deploy that app within the first half of this year. And that will allow members to be able to look at their statements, it will allow them request clearance certificates without coming to our offices, it will allow them to pay SSNIT from their mobile phones and will also be able to send payments through mobile money and also disburse some pension payments through various electronic platforms,” he said.
The management of SSNIT made the presentation of the brand-new pickup at a short ceremony held at the SSNIT Pension House in Accra.
The presentation was in response to an earlier request by the NPA for the Trust to assist in addressing their transportation challenges.
