The suspect standing by the stolen car
ADJETEY Millicent, 19, a form two student of Oyoko Methodist Senior High School (OMESS), and three male suspects are currently cooling off at the Suhum police cells for allegedly robbing a taxi cab to sell and for also stabbing the driver.
The victim, as gathered, has been treated and discharged from the Suhum Government Hospital while the suspects are assisting the police in investigations.
Supt Yahaya Muchiraru, the Suhum Police Commander, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, hinted that the suspects—David Asare, 19, Awetey Richard, 18, Gideon Addo, 18, all taxi drivers—and the female student on Saturday afternoon approached a taxi driver (name withheld) at a washing bay at Dan Villa – Okorase Junction, a suburb of Koforidua.
According to Supt Muchiraru, the suspects told the driver that they would charter his taxi to Accra at 10 pm that day.
The driver then took them but while on their way, they stabbed the driver in his two hands and took the taxi cab with registration number GG 2131 – 16 to sell at the Konkomba market in Accra as scrap, a move that raised suspicion. Some people reported the matter to the police and the suspects were arrested Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, two of the suspects—David Asare, 19, and Awetey Richard—are currently standing trial at the Mpraeso Circuit Court where they were granted bail two months ago.
The female student, as gathered, confirmed to the police that one of the suspects, who is her boyfriend, told her that they were going to sell the car to get her wedded.
The suspects will be put before the Suhum Circuit Court today (Tuesday) for trial.
