The Suame Constituency has received a significant boost in education, healthcare and vocational development following a major intervention by the Member of Parliament, John Kofi Darko, who presented items worth GH¢500,000 to institutions and organised groups in the municipality.

At a stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday, February 13, 2026, the legislator handed over the items to the heads of beneficiary institutions, describing the gesture as part of his commitment to improving service delivery and promoting socio-economic development in the area.

Among the key beneficiaries was the Suame Technical Institute, which received 500 dual desks and a motorbike to enhance teaching, learning and effective supervision of students on industrial attachment.

Addressing the gathering, MP Darko explained that the donation followed visits he paid to several institutions within the constituency, during which their challenges were brought to his attention.

“The concerns of these institutions were laid before me when I visited them. As the Member of Parliament, it is my responsibility to respond to their needs and ensure they function effectively for the benefit of our people,” he stated.

He noted that the Suame Technical Institute had been struggling with a shortage of desks, forcing some students to share seats during lessons.

“The provision of 500 desks will ease classroom congestion and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning. Technical education is crucial for skills development and job creation, so we must invest in it,” he emphasised.

Mr. Darko added that the motorbike would support tutors in monitoring students posted to various industries for practical training.

“The school faced difficulties in supervising students on attachment due to lack of transport. With this motorbike, teachers can effectively monitor students and ensure they gain the required hands-on experience,” he said.

Beyond the technical institute, the Suame Municipal Health Centre received an air conditioner, a refrigerator, a computer and five rechargeable lamps to enhance healthcare delivery, especially during power outages.

The Suame Municipal Hospital was also presented with a computer and a refrigerator to improve administrative efficiency and the storage of essential supplies.

Disability groups within the municipality benefited from nine wheelchairs, one pair of arm crutches and a walking aid to improve mobility and inclusion.

Seamstress apprentices were also supported with 12 sewing machines to strengthen vocational training and encourage self-employment.

The Suame Magazine Clinic received an air conditioner, a refrigerator and a computer to improve its operations, while the Municipal Education Directorate was equipped with two projectors, 30 laptops and 34 projector screens to enhance digital learning in schools across the municipality.

In addition, 34 students were awarded scholarships to further their education, a gesture intended to reduce financial burdens on their families and expand their academic opportunities.

The occasion was also used to launch the municipal mobile laboratory, an initiative aimed at improving science education by providing practical laboratory experience to schools that lack adequate facilities.

Mr. Darko urged all beneficiary institutions to ensure proper maintenance of the items to guarantee their longevity and maximise their impact.

“I see this as an investment in the future of Suame. When we equip our schools, health facilities and vocational groups, we empower our people and accelerate development,” he noted.

Heads of departments and beneficiary groups who received the items on behalf of their members expressed gratitude to the MP for what they described as a timely and impactful intervention.

They also called on other leaders and stakeholders to emulate his example in supporting community development initiatives.
