Subah Infosolutions, a Ghanaian Information Technology solutions company, has gained international recognition, having been adjudged ‘The Best Telecom Traffic Monitoring Solution Company of the year’ at the annual Africa Telecoms, Fraud and Revenue Assurance & Risk Management Forum 2016.
The annual telecom industry conference, alongside an exhibition, is organized by Falcon Business Research.
It was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where eight African countries were hosted.
Each year Africa’s mobile/cellular carriers lose billions of dollars through theft of service and related frauds.
Alfred Lelya Kiteme, Event Coordinator at Falcon Business Research, said fraud and revenue loss in telecoms continue to be a major priority for big businesses in Africa.
Whilst the region’s telecommunications industry has seen a quantum leap in the past decade – with markets like Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda being some of the most competitive and lucrative on the whole continent – there remains this shadowy side of telecoms in Africa, according to Mr Lelya Kiteme.
He said Fraud Management and Revenue Assurance in the telecommunication industry are both key factors in maintaining operator’s margins.
With the growth in complexity of networks, services and the increasingly sophisticated use of technology by fraudsters, these require an end-to-end approach which proactively identifies future challenges.
“Revenue Assurance is therefore a major concern for all operators. There is a general consensus in management that between 1 to 3% of revenues are unbilled and that between 2 to 6% of billed revenues are unpaid,” he disclosed.
He said the conference provides a platform for operators to meet with global and regional Fraud and Revenue Assurance experts from regional and international leading operators, adding that interactive presentation, networking platform and panel discussions, case studies, as well as key note presentation from the experts would give operators access to the information that they need to tackle the challenge that they are facing.
Birendra Sasmal, CEO of Subah, said the company is an indigenous Ghanaian entity and “our state-of-the-art solution ‘RATMS’ has been developed by local engineers which is competing with many world-class companies in the African market. It’s an African solution for an African problem.”
And this award is not only inspiring to the Subah team, but it will inspire many Ghanaian engineers to build many more solutions for the African market to solve many other African problems.
Subah SIM-Box Fraud Detection Services enable mobile operators to track down and eliminate SIM Boxes from the network in real-time.
It utilizes a data feed to collect real-time usage data for each IMSI in the network, which is used to quickly identify offending SIMS.
Redeemer Kwame, Director of Subah, said the international recognition the company had gained was a result of their hard work since the inception of the company.
“So it is a great feeling that our hard work has been recognized. It speaks volumes to be awarded internationally,” he said.
He revealed that Subah has an aspiration to enter other African countries and collaborate with various governments and their agencies to tackle issues related to telecom fraud, risk management and revenue assurance.
