ENOCH TEYE Mensah, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram Constituency has confessed his full support for the free Senior High School (SHS) policy intended to be introduced by the government.
According to the former Minister of Youth and Sports, he is 100 percent backing the initiative of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to make second cycle education free for all qualified Ghanaians.
He stated that “I will go for free SHS. We have oil etc. We must find the money, we can find…When Nkrumah didn’t have oil, he gave us free SHS. So, for that one, I support it 100 percent.”
The veteran politician who had been MP for his constituency in the Greater Accra Region for two decades expressed his admiration for the policy when speaking on Accra radio station yesterday morning.
Mr. Mensah told the host of the show that Ghana’s greatness around the globe was as a result of the free education policy introduced by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana.
He expressed his excitement about the de-politicization of the free education program during the Nkrumah regime and advised Ghanaians to do away with politicization of government policies.
The former Mayor of Accra believed that the introduction of the education policy would boost the workforce of the country.
Mr. Mensah who is known to be a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) recently caused a stir within his party when he entered the race to contest for the Greater Accra Regional representative of the Council of State.
His decision provoked most of his party members across the country who had come out to condemn his decision and pursued him to rescind his decision on the day of election.
